Humminbird Waterproof VHF - Power Cable needed

Hi Chaps,

This is a bit of a long shot, but I am after a power cable for my Humminbird VHF. I bought the VHF unit from a boat jumble, and it had no power cable. It is the Fixed radio with fist mike, and I can't actually find any model numbers on it.

In the manual it says that the part number I want is PC-R, and is a 4' power cable with 6-amp fast blow fuse.

Does anybody have, or know where I can get hold of, a replacement power cable?

This might sound odvious, but, have you tried phoning Hummingbird and seeing what they say? Chances are they do spears....

Spears? Sounds fantastic! For years I've been messing around trying to catch fish and spike people with my fist mike, I never thought of asking for a spear...

No, seriously, I did have a half hearted attempt at looking on their website, but I thought I'd seem a right plum if I asked for a power cable for "One of your VHF's, can't find a model number...", and that it would be better to look a slightly lesser plum here first.

Not that I have anything against plums...

Ok, I'll shut up now. Will phone Humminbird on Monday.

Checked with Humminbird customer service over here in the States and got the following reply.

Sorry, but the part is obsolete. We no longer have it available. You are correct with the part # - PC-R that is for a fixed mount radio - DC-25. Best Regards, Julie - CRC

Hope someone has one lying around for you.
If not; is it possible to solder a generic connector onto it or fused supply wires? Are they pin or blade style connections? Maybe you will be able to rig something up that would work

Thanks for that limeydal. That's exactly the response I got when I phoned Humminbird UK up, so I'm hoping someone may have a spare available still.

The VHF is at home (I'm at Uni), so when I get back I shall have a look at it, and see if I can knock something up myself.

Oh well, at least I still have this spear...

Always useful to have a spear, you never know on a rib when you might need one......in case of err zulu attack!?

Sorry to tell you this but don't trust the water proofing on the hummingbirds of that vintage - when they break you float tested them.
as for the lead I'll look at home I might not have thrown it out.
Other wise if you can use a soldering iron and hard wire it.

Thanks for that Jelly, when I find a Rib to fit it to, I'll ensure it's reasonably protected! I'm not too bothered about it seeing as it was a free VHF, but if I can use it, I'd rather not have to spend too much on it!

If you do have the connecter lying around somewhere that would be fantastic, as security wise I'd quite like to be able to take it off any Rib I fit it to.

Or, I could pay someone to stand there and guard it, with my spear...

WooHoo! Have just got a boat to fit the VHF to!

I may have one for a Humminbird VHF , is it the yellow / black one with a 2 pin socket on the back?

It is a yellow and black one, I am just waiting for my dad to take some pictures of the socket on the back so that I can be sure.

Right chaps,

Having got home and looked at the VHF, I am now able to post the following three pictures, a front, a back, and a closeup of the power socket.

If anyone does have a power cable or a plug I can wire, please let me know, as I would like to be able to remove the VHF whenever possible.

Wont an electric shaver or stereo power lead fit.
As said ealier Dont rely on it being waterproof it is to USA standards at its time. The first thing to pack up is its speaker followed by the knobs. Been down that road.

Thanks for all that info chaps, I think when I fit it to the rib, I'll try and work out some way of fitting it into the gap on the console that is already there, so it is at least fairly sheltered from the elements.

Lurcher is kindly supplying me with a cable, so the hunt is I think over.
