Fish Finder Depth Issues

Why do things always come at once, buying a new VHF set and the fish finder feels like it wants an upgrade now, doh.

So here's my issues.

I have a eagle fish easy 2 that was on the boat when i bought it, been fine all season but yesterday started doing some very strange things.
For instance. A normal depth of 3m suddenly changed to 150, then 176, then 200m and then stayed around the 160 to 200 depth all day. Sometimes changing to minus 50m, which seemed odd as i was still on water and not on a small mountain. Now i know we have some keen bait diggers but 200m, hmmmmm.

I have checked its not been knocked off angle. Thoughts anyone? Fixable or binable?

If binable whats recommended around the £100 to £150 bracket.

Check the transducer connections first, even the "gold plated" ones get surprisingly corroded. Also a potential culprit is pinching or breakage of the transducer cable.
Although that is a rather budget unit and there are some surprisingly good color screens available now, in your price range, at least here in the States.

Cheers for the reply. I shall check all the wiring when my vhf set arrives and do it all at the same time.

We have had this when we used to take eagle sounders off the boats after each trip. We leave 'em on all the time now.
have a look at the multi pin plug in the back of the set.
One of the pins may be slightly out of line and need teezing back into place with a pair of tweezers or similar.
Ours used to keep going off into demo mode or doing silly depth soundings. Good as gold now that we leave them plugged in permanently and they are a few years old
