Displaying ships radio license on a RIB

This must be a common problem.. I've been thinking about how to display the ships radio license on my RIB. There is no screen or windowed bulkhead that I can mount the thing on. I could laminate it to stop it getting wet and just stick it to the console but there must be some other clever ideas out there. Has anyone found a waterproof holder that is through bolted so the license can't be removed for example?

(only a week before the free online license application system becomes live I believe!)

Hi Licence is now FREE and when existing ones are renewed no requirement to display a disc only have licence available for inspection. So just laminate the document.

Hope this helps

Mine always came with a free plastic holder like a tax disk holder. It was pretty waterproof but not totally on my SR4. I had it fixed on the left of the consol.
If you haven't got the plastic holder ask them for one.

Yes that definately helps thanks - can just laminate and store in the locker. I applied for new boat license in October and it was free (postal) but it's an annual one and still says it has to be displayed. I need to change some details anyway so I'll wait till after 1st Dec and do an online change request to get lifetime license.

Thanks!
Al.

When I got my new Licence recently, a letter accompanying it stated that I only needed to have a photocopy of the licence on board at all times - and that it did not necessarily need to be prominently displayed.

Have always used a motorbike tax disk holder to good effect - got one of those posh ones with 8 allen screws to hold it together and bolted to the A frame.

can you give a link to one that won't rust at sea.

No link as it came from Ebay I think. It's similar to ones in Halfords that go for about £15 and made from some form of alloy,

What about something like this - ebay item 260056901483. Not cheap but should do the job (stainless).

The bike ones did OK for me, if they could survive on the front wheel of my sons bike they had to be good for the RIB

Seriously though do you think that Ofcom will be out to check now they get no income from the licences? They sold their boats several years ago and there are not many staff left now to come out.

Save your money and file the paperwork in a suitable place

I assume that's why they have gone annual and free (much less admin) - also no excuse for not having one. If they did need to implement any checks, it would be very easy to check if a partic boat name has a license associated with it. As was already mentioned, it seems they are not that interested in having ships license displayed (although my letter doesn't say that).

On line changes / applications start from tomorrow :-)

Well I just registered for the new system. I thought it was going to be complely web-based but it seems not. Apparently I've got to wait now for them to send me my username in the post. Oh well, will be interesting to see how easy to use once the details come through....

Have you got your login details back from Ofcom yet? I haven't but I guess Christmas post may be slowing things down a bit (that and the load of people trying to get access to the new system!)
