Thought that would be the case, but any way of testing it?

you could try running the autowinterise sequence, it should display a message & sound an alarm. Failing that lifting the float out of the oil tank should bring a low oil alarm, but it's a bit of a faff to un-fasten the float housing from the tank.

If only you'd posted this 24 hours beforehand and I would have lent you my broken iCommand for the season.. It is stuck on temp and speed but would ring with alarms. Anyway..

The alarms should come up on the HDS, but they won't have the same detail as the iCommands, at least for everything. My old Ray kit (same as PD's) just said "engine alarm" and nothing more. The new Garmin gives a bit more detail but not a huge amount.

Incidentally, if you are thinking of going for an LMF over a true iCommand then would be no loss by going for a GMI10. The screen is just so much better.

Thinking about it, the LMF with the specific BRP/Evinrude firmware does give detailed engine diagnostic messages. I don't know if the generic flavours would.

Gotchi, I think that you can hard reset the Icommand gauges using a combination of button presses & powering on the unit, have you tried that?

Have you tried speaking to the guys at Ribstuff, they often have spares like this with big discounts. Might not cost a lot for a proper gauge.

Will my HDS put GPS out over the network?

My lowrance lgc 2000 has strange connectors for the old 3500c unit.

yes the HDS can be set to put out basic GPS sentences over the NMEA 2k. I set one up like that this summer. Whether the iCommands will accept this I cannot be sure but I imagine they would as they are happy to take it from my Garmin 17x puck.

The strange old connectors are probably NMEA 0183 proprietary connectors

Its a strange harness I believe, but I don't know where the join is.

here is a photo from a Google

http://www.davesmarineelectronics.co...ce/112-231.gif

It has 2 sockets on the end and a terminator so I think it must be a very basic network...
