which 175 or 200 for a vipermax 6.5

I am looking at what lump to put on my vipermax when i get it, i can go for 200 hp so is quite open although i am having the transom altered for just long shaft rather than extra long

here are the ones i am considering

suzuki df175....the new one when it is out, like it and seems good compromie and i think would have acceleration as good as 150 opti if not better
suzuki df200...no to this engine, too heavy at 263kg and only avail in extra long
yam hpdi or max 200....waiting to get prices on one
honda....dont seem to have a suitable 175 and 200 tooooooo heavy
mercury opti 175 or 200......
i know a few guys have 150s, could you do with more power, would a 200 be better if was an option....would a 175 be better than a 200 as an overall package would 175 be more economical than 200
etec 175 or 200....seem a bit pricy but seem like good engines, wont go for HO versions as not needed and pricy

I do like my Opti, but I do like the look of the E tec !

A four stroke is unlikely to match the acceleration of an injected/HPDI 2-stroke, unless its a Verado but these are supercharged.
I think its unlikely that you would get a deal on a Suzy 175 because they are too new.
My money would go on an E-tec 175 or 200. A Verado would be cool but the E-tecs seem to be the way to go.
If you have set your heart on a 4-stroke get a Suzuki, they seem to have cornered the market, however I think its a 2-stroke that best suits the character of the Osprey (good choice by the way).
Give these people a ring for E-tecs.

Hugh Phone and speak to Ian at Liverpool power Boats 01519441163 tell him Milan recommended you speak to him about your proplem believe me if you do nothing else but speak to him it wont be a wasted call he fitted my 225 Evinrude Etec this guy knows his stuff trust me he will give you the best advice I know

I would probably go for a 175 - possibly opti as that's what I already have. Same weight as a 150.
200 is heavier and weight kills performance and might not be good for balance and handling.


Are you sure you'll have enough freeboard at the stern with a lower transom and a heavy 200?

Why have you elected to shorten it?

i originally wanted a 175 opti like rocking horse poo, they all go to the forces, expect a long wait barrus told me it would take for ever with no confirmed delivery date. but basically the same engine as the 150 but more horses for the same wight and look

keeps the c of g lower and most engine choices come in long shaft so i seem fine

How about an E-Tec 200HO? Nice blue colour and nice cowl graphics and a hi-speed gearcase. Only available in longshaft.
