V8 Outboards

Yes yes we all know about the Yamaha V8 outboard - a stunning example of modern engineering BUT

Look at this

http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2568...91848696Piimgu

A V8 outboard putting out 390hp yet weighing the same as an optimax 225!!! The Johnson V8 2 stroke - in race trim pumping out as much as 450hp.

Alright I bet it guzzled the petrol but the engine weighs 279lbs or 127kg less than the Yammie - that's quite a bit. Also the Yammie isn't exactly economical either - 120l an hr at WOT.

I want one of these old Johnsons - I just wonder what happened to progress - the brochure dates from 1982!!!

And you only got a 60 day limited warranty! Wonder how long they lasted.

Not a rib site but it's interesting:

I think Ken Warby may have some serious competition in Russ' new boat!
This is what Russ is up against http://www.kenwarby.com/pre_intro1.htm
