Teleflex question

This may sound silly but I put the steering back on properly today. I have 1turn to full lock right but 1.5 turns to full lock left. Obviously it will turn tighter to the left than the right. The wheel is straight and centred when the engine is dead ahead. Are the number of turns governed by the link rod from the cable to the motor? I am assuming mine may be too long.
It was probably like it before nut I would prefer to sort it.

Yes - that's it.
Presuming your steering cable is routed through from the starboard side of the motor, then your rod is too long
If the link rod isn't adjustable, then you'll need to change it for a shorter one.
To get the length right, measure how much travel you get on the steering cable rod through the tilt tube for 1/4 turn of steering wheel movement and reduce the link rod length by this amount

Hello Mr Downhill how is it up there

Was about to ask teleflex question , is there any way of getting grease or lube into the top end , its not easy to get at on my boat . and iam sure pumping grease in at the motor end doesn't get it to the top .

Jizm - if your rod isn't adjustable, you may be able to alter the tilt tube position, by undoing the large threaded nuts each end and moving the entire tube laterally by the required amount, then tightening the nuts back up - this will effectively move the position of the steering cable relative to the motor, with the helm in a fixed position. If there's enough adjustment to move the tilt tube the required distance towards the starboard side of the boat, this should do the trick.

Parkesy - I've never seen any grease nipples on helm units. I thought they would be pre-lubed and sealed, thus making them maintenance-free, but it may be an idea to remove the cable from the helm occassionally and refit it packed with grease, as in my experience very little in the boating world is 'maintenance-free', especially if it has moving parts. How much agro would it be to get the cable out of the helm unit?

My jockey consul is narrow withe the fuel tank in it , so I can only get my hand up under the steering and feel about . Would probably need to remove the fuel tank for better access. I hoped someone would say there was a grease nipple that i hadn't found .
I have got to have something thats a bit of a pain , cos the suzuki motor is so easy to work on . Never seen such a simple cam belt assembly . The dealers must be lappin it up with servicing them .

No its ok was just servicing the boat on sunday . Would like to remove the play in the steering , but I guess thats just the norm .

Primed for action ! sounds a bit ominous . Does that mean you allready squeezed the wrist exerciser on the fuel line

My 'wrist exerciser' is always primed. She's going in the marina this w/end.
