Suzuki DF90 telltail issues

HI,
I own a Humber 5.5m rib with a DF90 outboard as power. Prior to launch engine start was checked with water provided thru a set of ear muffs and after startup tell tale indicated coolant flow. However, the after a few seconds and a few spurts tell tail flow reduced to almost nothing. there was good exit flow thru the prop. Immediately swiched off and checked the water supply and found to be ok. Decided to try again with the same outcome.

Engine was run a few weks ago on land using ear muffs with no issues

Before trailing off to to service centre be grateful for any ideas as to the cause(s)

Regards

Assuming the muffs did give a adequate supply of water (often they fall off the inlets).

First "silly" thing to check is the tell-tale pipe is not blocked. It's often the case that a bit of gunk gets caught up in it. Next, remove thermostat and clean, check it works (drop it into bowl of warm water). After that IRS the impeller check.

Let us know how you get on

I have a DF70 and had very little or even no water coming out the tell tail. But on muffs lots coming out the exhaust. Engine was running fine with no warning buzzer or lights. Using a flat screw driver I removed the tell tail nozzle and removed some crap. Now it squirts water a few metres away from the boat.

Hi all

Removed the nozzle as suggested, some crap blocking exit was blown out and telltail now working. A bit silly of me not to realise the obvious.

Thanks again

Nairn

PS. On another tract any suggestions as to where I can obtain a service kit or individual service parts for my DF90.

Thanks

N

Brownspoint Marine in USA although postage costs sometimes cancel out any savings.

Great, glad it worked out well for you. Amazing how many people would have gone direct to the dealer, £200 later to be told all sorted!!

Service kit on eBay at mo item number 320650399276 for the full kit inc all anodes etc. Shipped from the USA so if you shop around you would get it cheaper in the UK

International Marine Supplies a good starting point, based in Lincolnshire from memory. Otherwise google your local dealer

Happy boating
