Rough fuel usage of 20hp and 30 hp outboard ?

I know it depends on lots of things but just a rough idea of how much fuel either a 20/25/30hp ( if there is much difference between them ) uses on a constant cruise.

I know it is back of a fag packet stuff but just a rough idea would be great.

Cheers

in my 40etec, in a flat water on constant cruise @4000rpm i get around 1.8miles/liter, i guess in a balanced setup you can get better figures.

Lukey,

My old 4m Searider / Suz 25 (1993 ish vintage 2- stroke) Averaged 0.76L / nautical mile over a season's use. That includes a week of use as a rescue boat where it sat at tickover with lots of stop / start.

The one cruise (Approx 45 nautical miles) I have hard data for gave an average of 0.73L / nautical mile. That was 2 up, and with quite lumpy seas on the way back, so I guess about 1/3 of the trip was done at 3/4 throttle. Rest pretty much flat out as I was trying to keep up with a 50!

Hope that helps.

A 2 strokes engine consumes at WOT 10% of it's rated HP, that is 2.5 Gals for the 25 HP & 3 gal for the 30 HP. To get a precise real consumtion in a particular cruising condition, example: with 1 gal on your tank, cruise at 3/4 (constant speed on calm waters) until tank is empty, see how much time has elapsed until engines stops.

Happy Boating
