Prop Size?

Hey all,

I have a 4m searider with a honda 45 hp on the back. I'm not sure what prop it has on it right now, but it will let this engine rev out past 6k rpm's with 2 or 3 people on board. If I understand correctly, you want to prop your engine so at WOT it is in the optimum rpm range (which on honda's webpage is 5000-6000). As I don't want to go above 6k, I think there is more power (speed) left in this boat as i'm never at WOT. Would you guys advise going with a pitch or few steeper prop?

I want to be able to get up on plane with 3-4 people though, would a bigger prop make it impossible to accelerate/haul people with ease? How hard is it to swap props? Would it be realistic to use a bigger prop most of the time, as I'm usually by myself or with one other person, but when I'm expecting to haul people, swap back down to the smaller prop?

I'm assuming that 6K is the redline on this engine?

Also, i'm not sure what size/pitch this prop is, is it stamped on it somewhere?

Thanks! Brian Pal

Prop

Hi
I have exactly the same boat and same engine!
I have the same problem with the engine over revving at top speed.
I have changed the prop from a 13" to 14" but am going to try it this weekend so will let you know.
It was very easy to change the prop - got mine from a brit company and it came with idiot proof instructions.
your prop size should be stamped on one of the blades
regards
Martyn
