outboard

I have been looking at a 1999 mariner 30hp 4 stroke. it is a fresh water motor and seems in good condition. These motor are not very common over in Canada so i was wondering if you guys have any experience with them. he wants 1100$ for it. it would be going on my 1997 zodiac yachtline 380r rated up to a 40hp.

That could be a rebadged same 4 Strokes 30 HP Tohatsu engine in which case Tohatsu spare parts will fit. A 30 HP is perfect for a 380.

Happy Boating

At 1999 it will be a merc powerhead. Good engines and reliable. They did suffer with the problem of the water tube grommet being crushed by corrosion. Not a huge job to sort and would suggest doing the mod if it hasn't already been done. Other than that they were a good engine. Pretty bulletproof. Basically the same as the 2cyl 25, 3cyl 40 and 4cyl 50. Gearboxes are common to plenty of models and again are no trouble.
