Thanks for all the replies....

sadly the ones Stu has are from older Optis, as is the spares engine on ebay, similarly the link Brad posted for Boatmad...

These are all the 'united technologies' type with the 9 toothed dog gear, which marine engineers and american marine both have in stock....

The type we have is the later Delko type with the solenoid alongside and 14 teeth on the cog...

Have taken it over to a specialist in Haverfordwest and will see what they can do....awaiting their call back...

Any more suggestions still appreciated....

Dan

Hank at American Marine imports came up trumps with one!

Highly recommended....v helpful

Specialist in Haverfordwest found it was slow to turn, but couldn't work out why other than teh grease seemd thick (??)....they tell me they have stripped and regreased and it turns alot easier now....

But we won't be taking any chances as we need to be back on the water by Tuesday at latest, so have ordered new also....

Thanks all...

If the magnets are shot, you rewind it and than 'flash' it to re-magnetise.

Can you tell me who does the above as I have a starter motor that needs its magnets "flashed"
