Not sure on the correct mix but on an older engine like that you wont do any harm running on 50:1 even if its a 100:1 engine many were exactly the same

Thanks guys ran engine up today with fresh fuel at 50:1 mix using Rock tcw-3 synthetic oil and now a lot less smoke, think the last owner was using chainsaw oil! Just got new plugs to fit and get some spare shear pins and i'll be heading for loch lomond a fortnight tonight with caravan, will take new Suzuki 2.5 hp just in case.

If he's been running it on chainsaw oil, grab yourself some Quicksilver Powertune and follow the instructions on the can. There'll potentially be quite a bit of carbon buildup in there.

either that or he / she was using the old "add a bit extra for good measure".....

Keep doing that with a "substantial puddle", add a bit more for good measure and the over oiled dregs keep adding to the mix too......

The guy I bought my old Yam 55 from admitted to doing the "add a bit extra for safety" - the engine ran much better after cleaning the plugs (twice!) & a good blast round the Kyles at WOT-ish with actual 50:1 to clean the soot out.
