What oil should be used in a 40hp honda outboard?

You;ll get the manuals for the BF40 here (free download) which will confirm the oil spec.

I don't think they have ever produced a 2 stroke.

Please don't buy your oil from Halfords or Tesco, why don't you try your local marine dealer they might not be as cheap as Tesco but probably will be less Halfords and your helping to support the marine industry.

And you can always gleen some information about your outboard problems from them as a bonus.

I use semi synthetic 5w 30 ford spec oil in ours (4 of them) must admit that I buy it trade from the local motor factors though.
(on account of the fact that they don't feel the need to comprehensively slag off every other firm/person that ever stocked it like the marine industry chaps do)
I'd love to be in the marine industry but the choice of extreme financial success or total bankruptcy with nothing in between I find somewhat off-putting)
