A new gasket shouldn't need any compound unless either surface is pitted. If you feel the need to use some compound only use on one surface... the easiest one to clean it from in the future.

BTW well done on taking the gamble.. now it's paid off it was the right decision!

- Definitely, and I now feel confident in the engine performing in its new role. Our estuary isn't a fun place to find out that an outboard overheats after 5 minutes!

Anyone want to do an engine swap?

Have a look at the for sale section, I've realised that this engine, being a short shaft is too much of a pain to fit to the longshaft transom on my aerotec 420....
