kill switch wiring

hi
Can anyone confirm that a kill switch(man over board type)is wired to short the engine to earth?
I am fitting a 1985 mariner 40hp to boat but do not know which wires to connect it too ,any help appricated

not sure what color wire it is on that, but yes, switch boxs is ground out
and kills the spark.

kill switch

My Suzuki is wired to earth to kill the engine, and I'm sure your Mariner will be too, It shouldn't be too difficult to play around with the wires until you get it right.

kill switch

On merc/marin it is normally wired 1 to earth and other conects up to black/yellow wire which is the stop circuit
