kill switch?

I have got a Evinrude 4 hp from 1986 i belive...

the kill switch on the end of the steering handle says stop on it, and i can be turned in and out.

how does it work? does it need to be in or out in order to be able to run!

But Can it be right that i need to turn it? It needs like 10 turns to get from in to out?

Ha Its wird! Why Not just a normal pull out dead man thing..!

You sure it's not just a "turn the engine off" switch rather than a dead-man switch? Push-the-button-to-stop-motor?

Or an adjuster for the stiffness of the throttle.

I think it's an adjustment but to bring the idle up, the newer john sons have that system. If you lift the tiller up on the underside is the tension adjustment for throttle.

Too old a motor to have kill cord system fitted me thinks so it's likely to be a stop button too on the tip

But don't quote me on it either...

Thx everyone! It's properly a stop button.. Hard to say tho when its not startable,.. The carb is not shutting of the fule with the float..
