idle adjustment on a 50 hp mercury

can any one help i think i need to adjust my warm idle speed as the engine starts fine runs fine but when warm seem very close to stalling and some time will when in neutral or at low running speed can,t check the speed as the rev counter is playing up i have the book but can i just turn the idle screw two turns or do i have to adjust the cabel barrel as well

any help please

On my 40 (similar set-up) I adjusted the block thingy on the end of the cable (is this the barrel you speak of???). It's pretty easy; just take it out of the holder, turn it a few times and stick it back in.

Idle speed

Dan, The pics you are showing are for the cable installation and not the idle speed, is yours a new engine if it is you may find that the idle speed is adjusted by altering the timing using idle adjust screw. This does not normally splip as screw is either locked off or has spring tension be hind it.
Let me know engine year or number and i will look it up for you.

Will look tomorrow at book, the barrel thing is the black barrel on the outer cover of cable that runs up and down the brass threaded area, when throttle shut its adjusted so it fits into the round bucket holder.
