Broken Transom Saddle.

Here is a video of my broken transom saddle showing the prop and skeg just to alleviate any doubts to BRP if I have hit anything.

As it was to dangerous to tow the 300 + miles home I had the engine removed and put into the back of my car by the people up at Oban where we moored the ribs who just happen to be Suzuki dealers I rang LPB for permission before doing this just in case it would effect the warranty. I can only but wait now until Ian at LPB comes back of his holiday on Tuesday.

Your not wrong there Dhd , but do you really think having a boat would have made any difference

GUtted for you .... at least its towards the end of 'good summer weather'

I did have one thought about the 'why'...I'm not famliar with etecs , but is there a towing bracket thingy that flips down to support it when towing that rests on top of the saddle ?

Yes they do have them but you must not use them while out on the water

I cant see any metal fatigue that would have caused that, and Ive seen both threads despite a pic that showed percieved weakness, its hard to know without seeing the actual engine but its a huge break over a lot of metal and thats unusual given the application, real bummer to have to deal with though Because of the apparent constant colour, it doesent look as if its happened over time either ? It looks like inherent weakness to me

Kerney

As a fellow Etec owner this is a worring development. I am wondering if there is a history of Etec 40-50-60 hp outboards breaking the saddle?

I have put a post up on the Etec owners forum and only had two replies saying that they have never seen anything like this and mentioned the possibility of bad casting.
