60hp Evinrude issues

Following my recent thread on "what size is this engine" I can confirm that it is infact a 60hp Evinrude, with VRO (although this has been disconnected). I want to get the motor running but all the wires have been disconnected from the control box so I am left with a number of coloured wires which I need to identify in order to a: get it running and then b: get it wired back up to the boat. I have the following colours to choose from:
Grey
Tan
Purple
Black/yellow
Red/yellow
Black (this is the only one I can identify!)
Purple/white
Red/purple
So, my question is, what is the function of each wire?
Also whilst we're on the subject, I want to find out the year of the engine. It's a VRO model so it can't be thhhaaatttt old - I'm thinking mid-eighties (very possibly 1986 as thats the year of the boat it came off). Unfortunaly the plate on the saddle bracket has come off at some point so the serial number is missing. However there are some numbers printed on the powerhead which I hope/assume also corrispond to a year. They are as follows: BJ50BELCUD G7432329
Many thanks!

Ive just found an OMC serial number chart thing. According to the number on the powerhead is a Belgium, Johnson, 50hp, "BJ" (dont know what that bit is) Longshaft 1986 "D". The year makes sence as I assumed it was the original engine for the boat, although the 50hp Johnson bit doesnt as it's in Evinrude clothes. The lid may well have been changed but I didn't think Johnson ever spryed their engines light blue like the rudes'. Werre Johnson parts ever put in rudes and visa-versa?

OK I should really have reseached before starting this thread. I *think* the wires are the following (can anyone confirm my theory)
Grey: tacho
Tan: temp alarm
Purple: ignition
Black/yellow: kill
Red/yellow: starter
Black: ground
Purple/white: choke
Red/purple - not sure....
