Hi

they have not made a 6hp for a while, but I am guessing you are talking about the fact that some engines are detuned versions of others i.e. if you check the engine weight and how many cylinders they well be the same along with prop, gearbox etc.

Like cars you can do this to take it up 1 step in HP where the above is true i.e. Honda 8hp to 10hp but like cars if it every breaks down expect a huge bill.

as for your 6hp to maybe 15hp. sorry that is being over sold.

Dave

After doing some research it does appear the 6 8 and 10 all share the same block, not sure what the differences are and it maybe just a throttle stop between the 6 and 8.
The Germans seem to know more about these engines it seems.

Hi
I am at a loss to how you think writing comments like that will not
offend.
Maybe if you really did mean to say something completely different then you should preview your own post before writing something like that.

So Dave,

Can you help - are there any simple differences between the 6 and 8 that the op could change to uprate a 6 to an 8?

When I was a teenager a very helpful Mercury dealer showed me how to take the restrictor plate out of a 2.2 to make it a 3.3.

I've got a Yamaha 4hp 4 stroke which I believe might share the same block as the 5hp and possibly 6hp. Would be interesting to know the differences and if there are any simple "mods" that could be carried out.
