1982 mariner 50hp wiring please advise

Advice needed,I recently have bought a avon searider with this mariner 50 hp .It has the power trim rams each side of the engine. My questions are there is a wire not attachted as in the photo brown with a white stripe.it is on the loom from the trottle control should it be attached to something.also on the control box at the front is a hole filled with grease and inside are wires that seems to be a plug of some sort any ideas

This came up recently. After some wine, I think its for an optional trim gauge.

I have a feeling it's either power to the tacho or signal to the tacho. Can you post a pic of the controls and I'll dig out the wiring diagramme for them. The early ones didn't have a trim gauge option as far as I remember.

No prob. They look like the old style mercontrols with the blue/silver striping-am I right?

It was for sale on here too actually. They go quite well with those bluebands on (same engine bar graphics) but a tad thirsty. 14" pitch prop works best from memory. Out of interest, how much? Pm if you prefer...

I was wrong,Tim M is right- it's the feed from the trim sensor to the gauge if you've got a trim sensor fitted. Tape it up if you don't. See here for the trim sensor wiring diagramme:-
