150 Opti swivel bracket bushes

Hi there, I've be trying to find some info re replacing said bushes. I have manual but its not clear on what I need to remove as it shows the area in isolation only.

Do I have to take off the whole powerhead too replace the lower bush?

thoughts

regards Richard

Probably will be best! I've got exactly the same job to do in a couple of weekends and plan to lift the power head off. To be honest I don't think it's to big a job, just make sure you get the 2 gaskets under the power head. Also check for corrosion on the rubber damper bolts.

Good luck

Chop the bolt and bush with angle grinder and put the bolts back in the other way.

Works fine

Hi CLJ, so don't remove powerhead or anything else, just cut off the bolts around the bottom yoke, part 19. I'm looking at Page 5A-2 on your manual link you kindly posted.

There is another option

I've got a brand new mind-section to fit an 150 opti. This is around a 2007-9 model. It's complete with PTT, Transom brackets. Everything brand new never fitted. Cheaper than buying new yoke and you get. Spare PTT/Midsection to boot!

PM if interested

Yeah I'm pretty sure that was what we did.

Try it...worse case you'll have to take the powerhead off so you're no worse off. Sorry for being so vague but it was about 3 years ago!!

I just remember looking at it with our fitter and discussing how stupid it was and we came up with the idea of reversing it. We used a little dewalt cordless angle grinder to carefully cut them.

The fitter said they looked like bushes off a mini if I remember rightly.

OR

Speak to Peter!

This is a repair we did to lower engine mounts recently. On a smaller MERC 60 4 stroke. Worked a treat!

Indeed. Pm me your email address and I'll get you pictures. It was an insurance replacement which was never fitted.

Been sat around a while.

no 3 on page 5A-2?

Richard,
I think Chris was talking about reversing the bolts that hold no 10 in 5A-2 and no 5 on page 5A-6 i.e. the rubber dampers. 3
That's exactly what I'm going to do when I rebuild. The only reason I can see that Mercury built it that way is to stop the engine falling off if ALL the nuts come undone. Nylock nuts and a bit of thread lock should stop that though!

I think to replace the swivel bracket bushes (no.3 5A-2) you'll really have to lift out the whole #18 assy. which is why I'm going to take of the power head off.
Reasons being to give easy access to all the rubber damper bolts and to make the whole thing a bit easier to man handle. (obvioulsy using a engine hoist!)

I'll try to tak some photo's when I do it in a couple of weeks time.

Finally managed to get some pictures taken.

Best offer to date is £500

I'm sure you know the PTT is worth that but I'll accept if nobody is willing to better this within 48 hours!
