RIBnet changes

Over the last couple of years the focus of the site has changed, with the forums now the main part of the site rather than an add on. In fact many people don't even know that there is more to RIBnet than the forums.

What was the "main" site has been neglected for a while now, and a complete rework has been long overdue. The new trade directory is now on-line (just needs a few more people to add their details!) and you will probably have noticed the new orange nav bar at the top of the page and possibly even the new home page

The links database is very basic at the moment but I have plans to make it more comprehensive and easier to use (more information about the links, and easier to get links added). It's on my "to do" list, but it will probably be a while.

There are some bits and pieces that have been made temporarily homeless by the changes (the old features, publications, about RIBnet etc) but they'll be fitted in some time when I get round to it.

I hope that the new layout makes it easier to get around RIBnet and gives a more consistent feel to the whole site.

As ever, I'd be interested to hear any thoughts, comments, criticisms or suggestions that you might have.

John

The changes have brought a fresh, more modern look and I think that's great. Everything I clicked on worked, I didn't spot any typos and I really like the 'Latest from the forums' side bar.

Another great job.

I'm not trying to be picky, JK, just a thought. The banner area at the top of the pages now takes up a fair area of the screen. How about a bit of compression. You could have RIBnetforums, a wee space and then the orange banner. That would return about 3 lines. I realise it wouldn't work well on the Home Page but I'm sure a man of your calibre could work around that. On the forum pages the the pale blue area, 'Thread tools' and 'Search this thread', is 3 lines high and could be set to one line if these titles were longer rather than dumpy.

We'd gain 5 lines to read the wonderful Ribnet comments!

Very nice John - it all looks much better

One thing, your 404 error page takes you into the old site

Like the new look John. 1 observation either the clock on the home page side bar is out or i've been on here far too long.

I decided to keep the navigation bar full width as that gives scope for adding other options to it. I'll look at possibly reducing the overall height of the title and navigation bits in the next release!

Pete7
The hyperlinks on the left are history, although you can still find some old pages if you know where to look! I'll rehome the features some time (probably in the forum) but the rest of the stuff was either obsolete or is now in the top navigation bar.

DJL
A new 404 page is on the to do list

Neal
The forum times shown on the main RIBnet home page are indeed wrong (server time not local time). I hope that this will be sorted out before too long.
