Changes to RIBnet

During the recent discussion about how we might improve RIBnet there were a few issues raised. They have all been considered and a couple of things have already been changed, a couple of things won't be changed, and there are a couple of things that are up for discussion.

Already changed

We're better at welcoming people who post in the introductions section. This seems to be working well and has had a positive reception. Feel free to jump in if you ever see an introduction post that hasn't had a response yet. Can you beat whisper and Jambo to the draw?

Updated the posting guidelines to include a "no whining" clause and amended some of the other wording, particularly to make it clear that in general discussions the admin team post as regular RIBnet members not as moderators.

Not changing

There are no plans to make any major changes to the admin team. They do a good job, mostly unseen, and I hope that people will manage to disagree with them in general RIBnet discussions without taking anything personally.

We've looked at the various options for adding a "Like" or "Thanks" button on posts, but the experience from Social Knowledge on their other forums is that it tends not to add much to the experience. So for the moment at least it's a no.

Up for discussion

We had a request for a new section for projects or rebuilds, or possibly repairs and maintenance. There are certainly a lot of threads covering these topics, but does it merit being separated? Would it just mean more work for the admin team moving posts into the right forum?

If we do make a new forum it could be called "Repairs and rebuilds" and cover GRP and tube repairs plus major projects. Engines and electronics would remain in their current sections, and cleaning would stay in RIBs and ribbing.

What do you reckon?

While I'm at it, looking at the use of different sections I plan to do away with the RIB racing forum shortly. There isn't really any RIB racing these days and the amount of discussion really doesn't really merit its own area. All the existing posts would be moved across to RIBs and ribbing though so nothing would be lost.

Personally I prefer to keep things in as few sections as possible. It makes browsing the forum easier IMHO. More sections just make the forum fragmented & if threads drift/evolve then interesting stuff could get missed.

Agreed. I mostly log in and hit the "New Posts" button rather than look at individual sections.

I sort of agree too . I find this very easy on the laptop ( quick links then todays posts ) but the mobile experience is not the same ! It may well be me ( old git ! )

Similar here, I just log onto the SIB section and then glance at the RH side 'latest posts' to see what's new.

I'd keep projects in their relative sections - it will just get diluted otherwise.

Bern, have you tried the "timeline" on the mobile app. As much as I detest FB & the timeline format, it works surprisingly well on the Ribnet app.

I find the mobile app easier than the full PC version. I too can't get on with FB but the mobile timeline works well for me. I think that your response JK is well balanced.

Pretty much same as you guys look at the recent posts a quick look at classifieds & search if I need owt suits me.
Do it on the pad whilst she's watching corrie, Enders & corrie again

I mostly use my iplod and click on the "Recent Discussions" topics, works for me
I guess there's as many options and opinions as there are users, never going to please everyone JK but on the whole it's working well

After recently joining the ktm forum all I can say is that ribnet is perfect In comparison lol
