STCW 95 Master (WorkBoat) <500gt CoC

Some information for those who are planning to do this new CoC;
  • entry can be from Master (Code Vessel) <200gt (limited or Unlimited) or OOW (Yacht) <3000gt or OOW (Unlimited) or Fishing Class 1 (Check out the flow chart and the M Notice for WorkBoat service, completion of WB Training Record Book, WorkBoat Master Module and MCA Oral requirements)
  • you can take the OOW (Yacht) Oral exam to cement in the Yacht modules, which have a shelf life of 3 years from date of course to date of issuing the relevant CoC, if you will not be able to complete all the necessary education, training and certification for the Master (WB) <500gt within 3 years of the first Yacht module not STCW Short Courses or GOC
  • you can do a 'limited' Master (WB) <500gt if you don't hold the Ocean (CE) CoC.
  • progression to the Unlimited CoC will, I would assume, be by an administrative upgrade but I am assuming that the new Astro Exam needs to be passed at some stage
I have already had enquiries from people with Master (Yacht) <500gt and some with Master (Y) <3000gt CoC's and am waiting a decision from MCA as to how these people may progress.
