I feel for Mike and I know what he has had to suffer, all his work will not be in vain if the rumblings are to be believed, I for one hope they are

Does look like it Biff in two different papers with separate authors, and both highlight Lord Beaverbrooks concerns with RYA

The powerboat side of the RYA in my opinion is run by health and safety and insurance agents, what they don't seem to have grasp in that it is a sport, hobby, pastime followed by passionate people, for the RYA it is a business

This the word that is being put around by several people. I could be wrong only time will tell. I can say 100% is that we will be setting off from Europa Point Gibraltar for around the world on the 2nd November at 1500 GMT no matter what others are saying

Hi Alan, it seems it will be a bit longer than that - here what one of the organisers put on YBW:

Quote:
Very quick update to above.

Very well attended meeting last Saturday with over 30 teams represented (both in the room and online). Full warts 'n all open debate which ultimately led to the sensible decision that the timeframe to this June was just too tight to run the type of race everyone deserves. London to Monte-Carlo will 100% go ahead in June of 2014. Nothing gets moth-balled and we don't start at some point in the future ...the work of the new team began a few weeks ago and continues every day. We've now got a broad and experienced team so we've every confidence that the full race next year will be amazing.

There is, however, an additional silver lining. It was clear, at the meeting, that there's still an enormous appetite for 'something' this year, so we're going to run a Venture Cup 'Prologue' race this June - to test boats, crews, officials, systems, etc. The first leg will be from London to Guernsey and we're currently investigating a number of add-on legs (decision to be made in the coming days). With a central London start, we've had a lot of enquiries about non-racing boats being part of the spectacle, so we're looking at adding a cruise-in-company to run alongside the main racing fleet. This is one of the few opportunities we all get to put our sport/hobby in front of the BIG media, so it'd be great to see as many boats in convoy as possible. It could/should be an awesome sight.
The London start is definitely still on which will be spectacular, I think they will be able to drop the stupid 25 knot wind limit and there will be more legs possibly including a round the islands race and a last leg back to the mainland - that's the minimum and there maybe more.

I think this is sensible as there will be more chance of getting it together in the time frame and build up some credibility for the full race in the future.

Yes indeed. i saw what Aiden put on YBW this morning and other information. Seems like 2013 is planning for a "venture cup" London to Guernsey with possible add on legs and then 2014 for the big one.

Be interesting to see what the next few months bring but clearly there are underlying issues with the organisation, not to mention the RYA's involvement.

Good luck to the new organisers. hope they can pull something off...
