Best Rib with 150 HP

Hi ,
I race in France with an Italian Rib, but I want to get a British race rib. I want to keep my engine (150 Vmax hpdi )to stay in my class.

We're actually at 50 Knts but we need 5/7 knts more...

Witch rib do you thinks is better for that speed...

Apart from Cookee there aren't many racers on this Forum you might find Boatmad.com useful also. they have a few active racers on that forum and a couple of old hasbeens

The BananaShark is a 7.3m tandem cockpit race rib with a hard nose and tapered tubes

Thanks, I've seen your fabulous hule on the dock's lift in Cowes during the Ribex.
For me, best length is between 6 and 7 m. The weight is very important too.

Actually our 6m is about 1 ton !!! The Rib without engine, seats and console is about 6OO Kg weight ! I think that it's too much !

Also, we 've got a good speed of 50 knts for a Rib which is 1 ton weight's and 150 HP !

Just a small question regarding the cover you have in the front, we tried that on a boat and we lost 2 knots because we got down force from wind in bow.
You don`t have any probs with that?

No ! we've no difference speed with or without cover.
it's more a sponsoring support !

Note that we are standing up in the Rib. If we were down in the boat like a jet cockpit, we were taken mor care to the aerodynamics effects

Hi

We build a 6.5M stepped hull RIB (7M Overall length) that is aimed at the 115 to 150 hp market.

The boat has been designed as a RIB (rather than modified sportsboat), has a twin tapered step arrangement with a double chine. We believe we have a very good balance between speed and excelllent handling / rough water abilities.

Your RIB looks very very nice. I had a sneaky peak when it was moored in the marina at the Cowes Classic. Also observed it slicing very nicely through the chop off cowes.

Have you seen my piccies in the Gallery of the Cowes Classic? There are a few of K4+ including one of your cat.

Really pleased with the RIB, demo boat is going very well, and being used to develop the concept all the time.

The cat is a long project and has caused some headaches! However we had a good test last weekend and hopefully we are now on track for a good showing at the finals in Cardiff.

Also Olivier, a photo of our RIB in two seat race configuration.

It certainly looks like an impressive boat with a very interesting hull design. I'm intrigued by the concept of tapered steps, it sounds like a good solution.

I had a bit of a sneaky peak at the cat in the pits at Cowes as well. An impressive looking boat.

Yes it is a 140hp Suzuki 4 stroke. Top speed is around 50mph - but think we will be able to find a few more mph, but do not want to loose all round handling for gaining a few mph on a perfect sea.

The yellow tubed RIB which was raced with a Mercury 150 saw around 63 to 64 mph.

Hi Tim
Some great shots!

The catamaran is at last starting to show some of it's potential. Still a lot of development to do but we have seen some good speeds and find on certain legs / conditions we run really well. Just got to put it all together and get her running well up and down wind. Unfortunately at Cowes we broke our best prop before the race and then had to run something that did not really give us enough lift downwind (there was a lot of downwind as well!) Working away on the boat and looking forward to the finals at Cardiff - where I think we can make a significant step forward.

The RIB is going really well and very pleased with how my tapered step arrangement is working. It is something I have tried on other designs to some extent. Just doing some of the magazine tests at the moment so should see more of the boat in print soonish.

We generally run out of Yarmouth and you're more than welcome to come fro a run sometime if you want to see how it handles etc.

After talking to Cookee, I understand the cats work better into the wind as they can generate the extra lift. Shame you broke the prop!

Take a look at www.ribunlimited.se. They are the maker of the Ribcat. It is the 101 knots world record - boat.
They build stepped 6m. and 7m. ribs. The 7 m. makes 52 knots with 135 hp.I know because our company has a 7.3 Bombard Explorer with a 225 and it makes 50 knots. The Rib Unlimited-boat passes us by a small margin. But I do not know anything about how well they handle tight turns and waves though. I do know that they are very reasonabled priced.

Hi Olive,

I understand you want a briotish made hull bit have you considered the SAfrican built FALCON 700RSR Racing LOA 7mtrs?
The boat has 150 VMax HPDI Yam on it and and it does speeds near and over 60 knots depending on sea conditions. The construction is light but very strong due to a special way FALCON manufactures this boat. It comes with guarantees that I am sure will be honoured by their rep in France.
The boat has wan all the RIB races in SAfrica for the last 3 years I think in F3 and F2 category. This is something considering the type of seas and racin g conditions they have there. I know I've been on it and is ausome.
