Which surface drysuit?

Hi,

I'm looking at getting a new drysuit and wondered if anyone can recommend one? It just needs to be a surface suit. I've got an old Aquion diving one but its HD and restricrs movement.
Have used typhoon but they don't seem to be great?

I've got a Musto HPX Ocean drysuit, it's superb except the socks which are huge and so crease up all inside your boots. Oh and holy sh*t they're expensive

I've got a Northern Diver Storm F4 which has ankle seals rather than socks which I use with wetsuit boots.
With the boots over the seals and the legs velcroed up tight round them you don't really notice the small amount of water that gets into them (unless you're up to your waist in water).
It's done its job quite well for 2 years now-though for solo use I could really do with a pee zip and a front opening suit rather than the rear zip it's got as getting out of it can be interesting solo.
Ankle seals aren't easy to get out of afterwards though.

I used to use a typhoon racer suit that was pretty comfortable, however the rubber neck, wrist seals and boot rubber has perished

For the price of repairing it I could buy another one for not much more.

I haven't used any other brand, but when I replace mine I will be looking at an intergrated boots solution.

Bought a Crewsaver Hyperdry earlier this year...it's a back loader (but I think that's changed for the 09 suits) so the in and out process is a bit more difficult than the front loader but I'm well pleased with the quality and comfort. Went for a back loader based on advice from several outlets at the Southampton Boat Show who suggested this for comfort. Never tried a front loader myself so can't comment whether the advice was well founded or not.

One of the Crewsaver drysuits now has a 'comfort' flap

for those of use, like me, who haven't yet developed the 3 gallon Ribnobber bladder

Bought all our suits from WetSuitOutlet who were very good

Forgot to say I'm after a front loader with preferably welly's on.
I like the look of the hyperdry's. Which one is the best to go for as they do a winter version and a normal one, the only difference I could see was one has a collar?

Do you mean welly's as opposed to socks?

Mine has a collar...seems ok, though not sure if I'd miss it.

Yep, wellies, I've used ones with the socks on and don't like em. My diving one isn't too bad with the boots on but wellies would be my preferred choice.

The only thing with the collar is I don't want to be sweating my nuts off in summer.

Typhoon WOOS suits are great, if only they had a hood like the musto ocean one, that would be nice .....

I think they're the ones that the RNLI used to use, great suits! I'll see much they are.

I know, don't think you can buy direct off them though.
Just spoke to Poole and they don't have any old suits, I've stuck my name down everytime they come up.

Thats the suit I have for weekends but I find its hard to reach the wheel.
The inherent buoyancy is excellent though.

I got a cheap crewsaver (think it's called a storm or something?), gave it a test when I first got it and when for a swim in it off southport beach (it was a mild winter day). Worked well and as I got it for a very good price it suits me.
Shoulder to hip zip and with the zip all the way down you can get your dingleing out
