Use of indicators

Just wondering if the strange use of indicators is a local Swansea habit or is it nationwide - I no longer travel all over the place so can't observe.

For some bizarre reason people around here never use their right indicator on roundabouts - and yet the always use the left to leave!!! I have even seen police traffic cars doing this and I just can't see the logic of it.

Fair enough some people just don't use their indicators at all - but I can't see why others think it's fine to suddenly swing around a roundabout without letting people know what they are doing.

I have almost had a few accidents because of this - cars look like they are going straight on - then suddenly they swing right - maybe they think the other driver is Physic!!!

No, it's not just a Swansea thing. It happens everywhere I go. It actually surprises me when a Mercedes car uses it's indicators at all now.

I have noticed that South Wales seems to be the home of the downright stupid motorway driver though- every time I cross the Severn Bridge I see something new and horrendous that I didn't think anyone could be stupid enough to think of as legal.
It's not that there's a higher proportion of idiots, just that the normal bad drivers seem to be ten times worse in South Wales.

The last one was a guy who came on at the A465 junction (43 I think?) and drove all the way to the end of the M4 on the hard shoulder at 55 mph...

Whoops poor old fingers not doing what they are told.....

Another major annoyance these days is people seem to have forgotten we drive on the LEFT - on dual carriageways you now get people who will get in the right hand lane becasuse they are turning right about 5 miles ahead(literally) - they stick to 50mph and then the idiot on the inside will drive parallel with them causing a moving roadblock!!!

And when did you last hear of someone being prosecuted for improper use of indicators or land discipline?

I wonder if the lack of Police cars on the road and the reliance on cameras has anything to do with the massive drop in standards???

It does my nut in when both lanes are clear for miles and you get some numpty sat in the outside lane at 60mph, just because they are turning right in a couple of hours time. You can flash your lights, but often they dont move over, and I would never condone under taking.

Too true, the other classic is when they get to a roundabout and have no idea which lane they should be so they go in both

That's not too bad-at least you can just hang back and stay away.

The one I REALLY HATE is when they slowly drive all the way around the roundabout in the outside lane with no indicators at all. Seems to be the over 70's that are fond of doing that round here.

Think there are just too many old people and women drivers.....

Driving around Spain I just couldn't believe how much better the manners were -people actually use their mirrors - if a faster car comes up behind they ALWAYS get out of the way.

Saw no speed cameras - no speed humps - no traffic calming and no road rage - bliss!!!
