What really impresses me is that someone had to build the path in the first place.

Yikes - have to admit this made me feel queasy at points. With me its not so much a fear of heights as a healthy fear of falling !

Looks like one of the Via Ferratas in Italy. Means Iron Road. They are basically all sorts of devices to assist hilers complete routes normally only traversed by climbers. If anyone remembers the film Cliffhanger although it was supposed to be in the USA it was actually set in the Dolomites. In the end scene Stallone clipped the helicopter wire to a ladder bolted to a cliff.

They are a lot safer than they look IF you have the sense to clip onto the wires with a Krab first!!!

Via Ferratas were put up during the war by italian climbing guides to enable commandos to cross the dolomites quickly. now there are many throughout europe.
They are an incredible way to climb often allowing people to climb well beyond their usual climbing ability but in relative safety.

Did some in the south of france a few years ago.
