Scouts, Sea Scouts and other youth organisations

Hi - just as a quick query - I was wondering how many here are involved in boating with Sea Scouts or similar groups. I'm involved in Sea Scouts ( all be it a long way from the sea in the midlands ) and wondered who else is, and what their involvement is ?

not sea scouts, but normal scouts (called explorers as we are over 15). We do have a boat for the troop that someone lends us to do watersports from.

I'm more in the background now days maintaining kit and acquiring free stuff and don't help every week.

Have no current involvement, but was a Sea Scout in the late '70s and a Sea Venture Scout (as they were called then) in the early '80s.

I was fortunate enough to grow up near the coast, and Sea Scouts taught me everything from my first bowline to tides and weather. We only had canoes and gigs at the time, but occasionally ventured across the Solent, and used round-nosed Bat canoes for the surf between Bournemouth and the Chines.

I have often considered being involved again, but my job would only allow ad-hoc support. If you are ever in Dorset or Devon, and require a volunteer, let me know. I owe a lot to the Scout movement, and would love to give something back...

GSL at Warspite, based near Epsom.

If anyone fancy's donating a 5m rib for restoration (we seem to have been inspired by a certain SR 5.4 thread), we would love to talk to you.

Otherwise we will be on the hunt when funds secured.

Rich

We love ad hoc support - particularly skills based. If you want to be put in touch with some sensible folk, drop me a PM

Hi Sharon - hope all is well

That's fighting talk about cadets! But I suppose you guys aren't really that bad........

Always think the choice isn't between the organisations but whether young people get a chance to belong to any one. And if you can't be a sea scout, a sea cadet isn't a bad option :-)

Everyday adventure!

Rich

Haha yep exactly - we are all the same really, just looking to give young people the best opportunities (and have a bit of fun while we do).
I was a Girl Guide when I was that age and it was nowhere near as good.
