Rough seas and incompetence

Really scary footage - the cruise liner very nearly capsizes at one point. I couldn't work out why they didn't turn into the waves until I looked it up.

Must have been hell for the passengers - there were 700 on board!!!

The ship wasn't designed for rough weather - more coastal crusing but the original company went bust and the new operators were operating outside it's parameters.

Apparently it was hit by a freak wave 45' high - but a normal liner would cope - they lost engines and steering for a while - I take it a sea anchor would be a bit big for one of those.

Ship was called the Olympic Voyager at the time.

Saga Rose takes a nice wave -

But then, this is better -

Look at the water draining off the deck after the wave from about 1min 20.
The Inishmore which goes from Pembroke to Rosslare was reporting green water on deck during the gales at the end of last year which indicates wave heights in excess of 10 to 15metres.

Also, there are a few good vids taken on the Pride of Bilbao in some weather going across the Bay of Biscay -

I wouldn't mind going across on one of those trips during the Autumn, looks like pretty good fun.
