Nav software

Is it possible to get some sort of navigation software for the car, like that you get for a GPS thingy which doesn't actually require GPS ie. u manually put in your position. I want something I can put on either my pocket PC or my laptop which will tel me where I'm going as I drive along and get lost....
Had a look on ebay; there's loads but it all requires a GPS received which I don't really want to buy. I have a hand held Garmin, I was wondering whether I might be able to use this as a reciver on my laptop.....

Tim,

What you need is a cable from your Garmin to your laptop or palmtop and the software. I might have some bits kicking about so PM or mail me with more detail and I'll see what I can dig out.

Yep, on the PC, MS Autoroute, and others support a serial connected GPS. This would work with your Garmin if it has serial NMEA output. Otherwise get a wired or bluetooth GPS engine to link to your pocket PC and run something like Tomtom.

I know students are always broke but just how cheap do you want???

If you already have a h/h gps then just connect it to the pocket pc or laptop - tomtom for the pocket pc or autoroute for the laptop - really does work very well...

Then download

http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/uksafetycameras.php

FREE database on speedcameras that is actually better than the ones some idiots PAY FOR!!!

Wouldn't a £1.99 map from a petrol station be easier

anyway your route is M11, M25, A3, M27, M275, followed by a hand brake turn into digs.

But there are several speed cameras to watch out for on the way! Including the evil evil speed camera on mile end road. (Didn't get me, honest!)
