Keeping a good look out...

On June 29th the crew of the tanker Pavit were evacuated 110 miles from the Oman coast, having reported total engine failure and flooding below decks.

All 13 on board were rescued by another tanker, the Jagpusha, at the request of the MRCC in Falmouth. The Pavit was left, believed to be well on the way to sinking.

A month later and the ship was still afloat, having drifted unmanned in the high seas. It was carried into what is described as a secure seaway off Mumbai, which is patrolled by the Indian Navy, Coastguard and Marine Police. Locals on the Juhu beach reported the tanker as it was about to ground.

More details here: After MV Wisdom: Pavit is the latest lure on Juhu beach

Apparently it's a Dubai-based company that owns the Pavit.

Hard to know the truth in all this.

What I find hard to believe is the assumption that the owners make that it's going to sink. Scuttle and insurance job come to mind!

Playing Devils Warninks, the owners would have been given a report by the Coasties. If they were told it was sinking then they just bang in an insurance claim and move on. Regardless of who owners the ship, the local Coasties could have kept an eye on it.
