p.s. not sure where to launch from as I am travelling from up North; if you had the choice where is the best to launch where I need:

1) Overnight marina (in case I decide to put the boat in the water on Friday to save a faff Sat)
2) Long stay parking for car and trailer
3) All tidal launch
Steve,

Confirm where you are launching from then I'll add you to my list if your coming from the Solent end. If your coming from the west I'm hoping one of those guys is going to rush forward start making a list.

Regards Nick.

Intent is to launch around the Solent , around Lymington area(ish); exactly where depends on where I can launch then leave car & trailer . I may launch on the Friday then put Rib in a Marina overnight.

I am probably out in the Solent next week, Tue/Wed, so I will do some recce then.

Just a brief one to say that to date there are 4 poss 5 of us [boats] from this end and I have the names of those who might be interested and will email around closer to the date.

I'm a big chicken about this as are my crew so far and really only fancy it if it's pretty calm. we just don't fancy the idea of getting beaten up, cold and wet!
however, I'm happy to take notes and 'co-ordinate' and pass it all on if we bail out....

lets hope for a smooth passage......?!?!?

If it helps................?
Here are a couple of snaps of:
a) The entrance to the Outer Harbour. You enter by coming round that large wall (breakwater) on the left of the picture, and progress right up to the point where the photo was taken.
b) Then you enter the Inner Harbour and tie up FOR REFUELING ONLY against this inner wall. The hut is Mainbrace Chandlers. Petrol is about 150yds on your right.
Diesel is from the pump that you can see.
You then go back out into the Outer Harbour and tie up against any free yellow buoy (around where that white gin palace is. A water taxi (or a nominated boat from your group) will then bring people in to a point just below the blue crane where a pontoon will be. A tip. Dump kit and spare bodies on the quayside at Mainbrace before going back out to buoy up.
c) Fort Raz. One of the 13 diferent forts you can see on Alderney.

Alderney

Hi Biggles

Just confirming that we will be along on

Merlin 2 on board Kathleen & Paul

Unless the weather looks abysmal.

We should still have the waypoints but as always, when in doubt follow Pete 7!!!

Happy to bring the tent also/fit in with the general plans.

We'll run with the Solent group and meet at Yarmouth as planned?

Thanks for all the hard work

K & P

Having made the crossing to Guernsey, there and back, yesterday, we will no longer be joining the Alderney cruise in July. It was problematic anyhow, as no-one was leaving from our neck of the woods and I have to say, that the conditions probably don't get any better than those experienced this weekend. It took approx four and a half hours over and around three and a half back.. petrol is cheap and we had lunch at a wonderful pub opposite the marina in St Peter Port! A little rushed and tiring in one day but all in all a very, very enjoyable trip!

All set to go

Well, I am all set. Have booked into Yarmouth Harbour on the Friday so am happy to press earlyish Saturday. Have also booked accomodation at Alderney - the Belle Vue Hotel (although if I don't make the crossing I lose all the full amount )

Hope everyone else is still up for it; bound to have a few wimp out before the event but it should be a great trip for those pressing on regardless (ish) (providing we have half decent weather)

Steve

p.s. Is anyone going to Ribex? I will be in and around the Solent that weekend, probably go to the show on Saturday 12 May.

p.p.s., what clothing do you guys wear for long trips like this ( I know weather is a big factor) - do you go for drysuits, wetsuits, lightweight clothing with spare stuff to hand? Thoughts?
