No Andy 42knts is good enough for me.im running the 21" stainless that came as standard. Although i do have a 19" stainless i could play around with.Just getting out on the water will be good enough at the moment, with this crap weather.hopefully september may be a little better.

Sorry to hear about the top speed though, even my stinky old 2 stroke powered Humber goes faster than that (about 38kt usually, on 115hp, have seen over 40kt lightly loaded). The chances of a new rib are receding into the middle distance these days so I guess I will never have to worry about it

5,100 revs, there was probably a bit more trim to use as well. i am running with a bit extra weight though, extra seating.aux,double Aframe,and so on,
what top end are you achieving with the 150.Waverunner is running a 115 on his humber 5.5 destroyer, managing 40 knts, he couldnt quite catch me. which i was surprised about as the destroyer is a lighter boat. untill he re-
props and then it could be a different matter.I might have to invest in a 175
ecu.

Max I've hit is 46kt, trimmed out, with just me aboard and not much fuel. It's set-up with cav plate 50mm above keel pad, 21" Laser II prop and with the motor trimmed out, I can rarely get more than 5000rpm, which gives 43-44kt, with 2 on board and around 100 litres of fuel. It also has heavy 2" double A-frame and a fair load of kit on board, but only 2 single seat pods. My aft pods are removable - they've never been out of the garage

interesting. and even more interesting is according to our local mercury dealer
the 135 is now dearer than the 150. is this true and any ideas why. 
Dai, is yours a long or extra long. mine is allso set at 2.5" above the keel pad.
and have you tried different props. Although 46knts on a 5.8 is enought to
clear any bad hangover.

No idea - they're the same basic motor, except the 135 has a lower ratio gearbox.

No, it's 20" mid (longshaft). Have also tried a 19" Laser II, which gave better acceleration, but less top end and still only hitting 5000rpm, but that was with the motor mounted 20mm lower, so it may rev a bit more with the 19" on the current ride height - will have to give this a try. Haven't got any other props to try.

Fine with me - given lots of food for thought. I have asked JK to relocate it to the engine section where it will be of more accessible.
JK can you rename it Vipermax 5.8 engine & speed issues !
