Not pretty but functional. 4cyl yanmar with Hamilton jet drive. I'm not a fan of jet boats, fun to maneourver but rubish in any kind of seaway.

Interesting that they use them for rescue boats, I suppose in the H&S conscious world, not having a prop outweighs the fact that it's rubbish in rough water?

Exactly, if someone falls overboard and you run them over you just pick them up as they come out the back! To be honest we very rarely need to go far, so the jet works fine for this application. I wouldn't have one on my personnel rib though.
Its interesting teaching people to drive them as the steering is the same ahead and astern, it takes a bit of getting used to. Some people crack it quickly some not so quickly  .

I always found with jet ribs that when going astern, if you turn round and face the back with the steering wheel behind you, and steer with your hands behind you, it feels very natural to turn the correct way.

My rule for jet drive is regardless of bucket position (fully up or down) wheel clockwise boat goes clockwise and visa-versa.
I do find when I've done a long stint in the jet I'm not as instinctive in an OBM rib... A few hours back in an OBM rib and initially I struggle a little in the jet. I'll get there. Determined to become ambidextrous !

Interesting, never had the opportunity to try one, not common round these parts due to kelp (anything with jets usually seen going around in circles swearing).

Never been on the Polaris but I work for subsea7......at the moment anyways....I've been on the Seven oceans for the past few years now.

Ahhh Seven Ocean, one can dream . Not too bad here, anchored off Freeport Bahamas. The water is 28m deep and I can see the bottom!
Been driving jeb boats for 15yrs and still have to think about it. Driving a prop boat is instinctive, the jet needs a little thought, not only because you have a great big jet sticking out the back that if wacked on the hull can bend the bucket................not good!
Once had a 1000hp twin jet cabin rib on an ice breaker I was working on, I'll try to find pics. I once dumped both buckets at 25knts, the result was pretty spectacular, not something I'll forget or repeat in a hurry. Imagine being hit by a Tsunami from astern . One of the managers was outside the cabin at the time, I still don't think he's forgiven me  !
