Last Sunday (14-01-07)

Took the boat out for a quick blast of fresh air last Sunday on one of the first days in weeks where the sun was out, and it was calm. Winds were 10 to 15knots, and the sea had dropped right down to 3 or 4 metres.

As usual, the bullet cam came along and we took still cameras too - unfortunately we saw no leisure boats out at all... the only boats that went past us were a tanker, two fishing trawlers and a pilot boat. There was a tug hiding round the corner, but I suspect they were having tea before a VLCC came in.

Video available for download here :-

(when I get a 2nd mic, I'll leave the engine sound on the videos).

Nice video. You seem to get totally different kinds of seas to us here in the Solent. It would be nice to go out and play in some big rollers that were'nt breaking. Keep up the good work with the videos.

They do break, just not so much where we were. If we'd gone out to the heads the current would have been interfering and then the whole lot of fun would have been turned into a whole lot of nightmare rather quickly. Also, add another 5knots of wind on and that usually helps too

Hoping Peter24/7 will have his boat back soon so we can get out further and get more pics when it's like this. Stormy season hasn't come yet, so there's plenty more opportunities....

Interesting, looks a lot like some of the sea conditions here, I love it when it is like that because you can have lots of fun without getting too cold and wet

I record onto a Canon DV Camcorder which hides in my dry bag right next to the transom to avoid as much water/vibration as possible. See here for a bit more info about the cam setup:

Some good winds coming over the next few days - may pop down to the heads to get some snaps with the camera - by car.....

Jono, you need to make sure it can take composite video in, not just out. I had to look around quite a bit before finding a DV Camcorder that accepted video in. Some of the JVC's do accept video, but most don't from what I remember. If you find out what model number it is, then I think there's a section on the rfconcepts page that lists the cameras that do support this feature.

For AV in you need to spend a little extra money on a camcorder. This is because of an EU tax on recordable products. If you manage to get your hands on a non EU product it will probably have the ability to record. EU non Tax Recordable product paid products just have a little indentation where the necessary lead goes for recording. The electronics are probably the same as a non EU product but the connector just isn't present.
I think this was one of Neil Kinnocks little presents............
