I actually prefer the stuff with the largest gaps...

I actually prefer the stuff with the largest gaps to absorb the glue. I cut them into small pieces so they can be dipped into a container of acetone/MEK, and throw them out often.

The goal is remove as little material as possible yet all of the glue. Scotchbrite pads works awesome, but it takes some elbow grease. Use lots of MEK if it hypalon. Make sure to wear high quality...
