My hitch has a built in lock, and I always lock it on to the car towbar - that way if I am towing and pulling for a pit stop at the services no-one can easily unhitch and tow away behind another...

I have SAS clamp type lock - easted over 10 years, but the lock cylinder is on the way out. If I can, I leave the trailer hitched & locked to the car towbar - saves time as well.
