I'm thinking the same thing. The engine on mine looks like its always been on that boat and the transom looks fine?

I had an alloy one it did the job but oxidised...

I had an alloy one it did the job but oxidised and if you ding it outting your engine on ends up looking battered and tatty.
You could go for a piece of stainless?
I personally like the varnised...

When you say transom plate you mean the bit on the outside that the engine sits against?
