Yes they were pretty ratty.
This was on a recent trip on the Canal du Midi with hire boats, so the gear was... well... not mine!
I've been using sections of retired climbing rope from the local...

What knot is this??
I have to confess some measure of embarrassment that one of my family secured the boat to the river bank with this...However, it did stay put for the night!
