A Thunderbolt will push it ok,I ran an SR4 with one on for a season. It'll go like it's got a 40hp Yam on it, and be a bit bum heavy and use more fuel than a later 50hp.

Ie, you'd be better off...

Depends on the 40 and the 50hp. A Yam 40hp is better than a Merc Thunderbolt 500 for example, but a with good PTT 50hp Yam/later Merc etc 2 stroke it will be a really fun beast.

You don't really want to put more than 50hp on...

You don't really want to put more than 50hp on one-they are INSANE with 50hp. Any more and you can't really use it unless it's mirror calm.
