Nice one. I'd give it a really good flush in a tub of fresh water , give it a few revs to see if anything else is loose and get rid of any vinegar in the system.

Sounds like a chunk of something has dislodged internally. Have you had the thermostats out and had a look at the condition internally.
I usually flush with a few litres of white vinegar in the tub...
