I was a bit dubious about mine but I've rebuilt...

I was a bit dubious about mine but I've rebuilt them using new bearings and seals and setting the boxes up with the correct tools and new shims and they are still the same.

My mariner gearboxes are like that, there is no preload on the bearing when its at rest. I have two spare boxes and they both do it too.
