We have about 20 Ribeye Ribs in our dry stack and they all use the screw-tighten expandable bungs. Can't think of a single incident where these have failed whilst in use. I'd go with that!

Just a thought, but I hear that "surf board wax" can be highly efficient as a short term protection from marine growth. No where near cool enough to know what it might be called, but I guess GIYF. :)

I'd try to remove the mildew with "Shmuffex". It takes a few applications, but seems to be the only thing that works - beyond a retube. :)
