The Isles of Scilly 2013
Anyone fancy doing this early next year? It was a hot topic last weekend and some were up for boating to Plymouth to meet people with trailers on a Thursday and staying over for one night before everyone departs from Plymouth to The Isles of Scilly.
The Trip will involve beer, dolphins, camping and may be some 'wavejumping n shit' Who's in? |

If there are no clashes with work commitments, I am interested. Which of the Islands are you thinking of visiting?

Will definitely be up for this if the weather is right !

Measuring on Google Earth it's 93 nm taking the shortest route, but I know that it doesn't always work out that way.
Completely open to suggestions regarding launching location for the trailered ribs  |
By road, but pretty direct-
Plym to Fal- 65m Fal to Lands End- 37m Scillies are approx 28m offshore. Land's End - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Lizard has to be avoided. ;) |

Not done Fal- Plym direct as I have no reason to go there, have gone beyond once. ;)
Here to Bryher comes in around 62Nm. I'd base your fuel calcs. on 120Nm each way. We've totalled over 200Nm out of Fal and back including running around the islands etc. Another thing to consider, I'd give Lizard Point a very wide birth anywhere near flood tides or springs. We've hit some really scary shit when skimming it too close. |

Be nice to have the dates when we might reasonably expect some good weather... Its nearly always niceish around the 21st May - I remember cos its a week after my birthday
|
:nonono: that's my birthday weekend.
|
....... And it's ages away
|
Just out of interest, what size rib do you need to make the trip?
|
Sorry guys, but we've never managed to get over on a pre-planned date. :(
We look for a weather window and go at short notice. Even using that tactic, we've been caught over there. An F8/9 blew through one night. We put the boats on deep water moorings rather than the usual anchoring and battened the hatches for 24hrs. The eventual run back was lumpy to say the least. :whistling: |
