Outboards etc

[QUOTE=lawrence567;409449]Afternoon chaps,

This is my first post, i'm currently on the hunt, for something with a bit more power.
7.5-10hp now i know these are like rocking horse manure, but i did'nt realise how much so.
I have quite a tight budget, so i'm not looking at anything new, but there does'nt seem to be anything around at all.
I've tried boats & outboars, apollduck, my local rag,freeads, pre-loved & Ebay.
I'm just posting on here on the off chance anyone else could help me?
It needs to be a 2S with a short shaft & tiller.
I have cash waiting for the right price, but i'm also considering a 15hp, as i gather 15hp 2S tend to be the same weight as the 10's?
Whilst also on the subject of outboards, where to look etc, my friend is also after a bigger engine.
He has a 2.4m Sib currently with a 7.5hp outboard on (boat says its rated to 5hp) what could he realisticially get away with 2S wise?

Many Thanks

Just had to re-post here as I put it in the for sale section by accident!

Hi Lawrence, there are a few about - often though they are attached to boats, worth buying a package just for the engine, you can sell the boat on and maybe get a better deal that way too, example here:

2.7m Quicksilver inflatable boat 9.8s hp Tohatsu engine on eBay (end time 10-Jul-11 23:12:57 BST)

Going rate for a nice Tohatsu like this is maybe £1000+

Lots more on eBay around 10hp.

Oh i don't doubt that, it's just i can't afford anything that expensive.
Otherwise i'd have bought a package. :-)
I can't afford anything brand new or up to 10 yrs old so it'd have to be an 80's / early 90's i reckon.
I've been watching loads of stuff on Ebay but even broken engines go for ridiculous money.
I was watching a 9.9 Yamaha recently that just needed a new carb, it was local & the company who said it needed a new car was local, i gave them a call, they said they'd quoted this guy about £200-£300 for a new carb as they are'nt cheap. He wanted over £200 for the engine broken, plus whatever it was to fix it!
Madness!

Same still applies though - plenty of 'old' boat/engine packages go for under £500 - sell the boat and then you have your engine. Usually much better that way too as it's likely the engine has been used regurlarly and not sat in a yard for 5 years...

You're much better off spending £500 on a good, reliable working engine than £250 on a non-runner that will need parts, will be worn in other areas and never have the re-sale value...

Another slightly older ending at 7.30 tonight:

TOHATSU OB 9.8hp. 2 stroke. model.M9.8B.3KG hardly used on eBay (end time 18-Jul-11 19:36:10 BST)
