Zodiac pro open 550 leak

Hiya I am quite new to boating so any help would be great

I launched my rib last week everything was fine.
The last few days I noticed some un welcomed water nothing to serious thought it was just rain water in the night. But upon inspection I noticed there is a slight leak I am guessing in the natural drain off in the rib I have attached a few pictures and a video to show what I mean. Again any help or advice would be great. The rib has been taking out the water to prevent any more water coming on board

Could be as simple as the deck drain bungs themselves are worn, and require the rubber inserts to be replaced. Got a picture of the transom outside so we can see where these bungs exit? I take these are under water normally at rest?

On your boat, is there a hull void bung too, any water from here when you checked?

I cannot follow the link to your video. However, if the water is gathering around these drain plugs then the issue is quite likely the outlet scupper valve on the rear of the hull. There are two on either side of your OB. The default flaps on these valves from Zodiac get worn over time and curl up a little. This means they are not preventing water from going back up into the hull. The Pro Open 550 sits quite low in the water at the back (you will notice this when turning or when on the plane that the rear of the tubes stays in the water), so as such, when youre back on the dock and the boat is idle and sitting in the water, the water will go back up the drains if the scupper valve does not prevent it. The solution is a simple replacement of the old valves on the back of the hull. I replaced mine ( i have sold the boat now) but put ones on with a table tennis ball inside. They worked brilliantly and I never had that issue ever again. Hope this helps, they are generally available throughout the world and cost around £20 each. Good luck :-)

That’s interesting, I have the same boat but my scuppers were replaced with two elephant trunks by a previous owner. They work fine but are a bit of a pain to use.
If anyone has a link to these scupper valves could you please post it so I can have a look.

JTurner's assessment is spot-on.

The rubber scupper diaphragm looks worn. Zodiac probably have a service kit if you speak to a main dealer. You're in Glasgow - so speak to Yampower.

I do like the stainless steel finish. If you're servicing it - Autosol on a damp microfibre will bring that up like new. Remember and use a little Sikaflex 291 on the self-tappers.

Here's the table tennis option. Automatic deck scupper

I'd also renew the deck drain bungs. Again stainless steel, but you should be able to get the rubber part which will be worn.

That’s interesting, thanks for the photos Boaty. The previous owner of my boat went to a lot of trouble fitting elephant trunks. They seem to work fine but I do get some water ingress in the hull. Might strip them for a closer look.

We have the same 550 open, but our plugs are completely different. Either they have been replaced by someone or they are perhaps a lot older than ours.

Boats, the Perko Scuppers are back in stock at Rib Shop. I’ve just ordered a pair. I removed the elephant trunk on my 550 and found a badly worn and curled up Perko scupper underneath. I’m going to fit the service kit and see how they work. The bungs on the top end are missing so I might look for something suitable.

Just following up on this post that I contributed to a few months back. Does anyone have a part number or a link to the Zodiac bungs for the deck drains in the Pro Open 550.
I removed the old elephant trunks on my boat and found old Perko scuppers underneath. I replaced the scupper flaps with the Perko service kit linked above. They work fine but I appear to have a good bit of water getting into the hull. I fitted a heavier 4 stroke outboard earlier this year so she sits a little lower in the stern. I have a feeling that there is a bad seal between the deck drain fittings and the deck. There has never been bungs fitted since I bought the boat so I am going to try a set to see does that prevent water getting into the hull.

Hi folks, I’m still having trouble with water getting into the hull. I’m going to have a go at replacing the hose from the deck to the scuppers over the winter. I may need to replace the fittings in the deck also.
Has anyone done this? How can I access these hoses without cutting up the boat?

With the stainless steel shrouds removed on the transom, and I assume its some sort of polycarbonate or nylon cover inside, then I'd have thought the rubber hose was sikaflexed at each end.

Can you completely rule out any other entry point for water coming in before you undertake this job?
